Why it matters
In team sports you never just track one player — you have to hold the positions of several teammates and opponents in mind at once while everyone is moving. This ability to split attention across multiple targets at once can be trained and measured.
The ability to simultaneously track several moving targets in your mind, even after they become visually indistinguishable from the rest.
Athletes in team sports who need to track the movement of several teammates and opponents at once, and anyone wanting to train divided attention.
Rating scale
The test is based on the classic Multi-Object Tracking paradigm (Pylyshyn & Storm, 1988), commonly used in attention research and sports vision training. Healthy adults can simultaneously track roughly 3–4 moving objects — beyond that, accuracy drops sharply.
